I’m incredibly excited to share this creative’s (@francat_photography on Instagram) personal, honest and intimate photography with you all.
Please may you introduce yourself and your practice.
Hi there! I’m Fran (@francat_photography), a freelance photographer, mainly specialising in portrait photography. I’m 23 years-old and based in South London.
How did you develop your practice?
I only recently took up photography, very much teaching myself along the way, now building up my portfolio. Having previously worked on theatre production and rehearsal photography, I love working and photographing people, telling their story through a single image or moment.
What inspires you and why do you love your practice?
I love the visual spectacle of the stage from the set and costume design, to the lighting. I love the way a film director makes a single shot speak so much, to my love of installation and live performance art…”picture speaks a thousand words” etc. etc.
What does it mean to you to be a creative feminist?
Womxn are beautiful, chaotic creatures; I love to work with majority female and/or queer creatives. For example, my most recent collaboration with @journalinglife hopes to reflect how space and the womxn who inhabit it compliment one another and how interrogating the personal can cause the ordinary to become extraordinary.
