Day 19: Holly Tudor

I am delighted to introduce today’s creative (@hol_draws on Instagram), whose work is skilfully embellished with detailed symbolism of femininity and feminism.

Please may you introduce yourself and your practice.
Hi there, I’m Holly Tudor! I’m an artist and illustrator from Manchester, UK. I love creating digital illustrations inspired by my own feelings and experiences exploring what it is to be feminine and be a strong women that will hopefully resonate with others.

How did you develop your practice?
I’ve always had a love of drawing and art since I was a child but I found that through school and university it was very much stifled and I felt put off. Over the last few years however, I have started to realise that art can be literally anything you want it to be and that’s the beauty of it. I feel this has opened me up to really practice and hone in on my own unique style and hopefully continue to grow and improve as I carry on.

What inspires you and why do you love your practice?
I love that it gives me an outlet to explain exactly how I’m feeling about my own experiences and vulnerabilities as a feminist, by portraying them through illustrations of other strong and beautiful women, which hopefully others will also connect with. For example, my latest illustration “Grow” (second image) is inspired by my own vulnerabilities around nearing 30 and coming to terms with the transition I’m making from a girl to a women, which I’m sure many women can also relate to.

What does it mean to you to be a creative feminist?
I’m so lucky that I’ve managed to surround myself with friends who are strong and confident women (and men), who celebrate and encourage each other every day. I think it’s so important and healthy to be a part of a community of likeminded people who will influence each other in positive ways and the art community is so amazing for that.

Please give Holly and her incredibly symbolic work a warm welcome to the community by following her page on Instagram- @hol_draws and by commenting your thoughts below! I am so in love with Holly’s digital allegories and their innate beauty and defiance so it’s a pleasure to welcome her onboard!
