I am in awe of today’s creative’s (@apainterart on Inatagram) bold use of a lively colour palette; each painting feels exciting and makes me smile!
Please may you introduce yourself
My name is Annabelle Painter and I am a self-taught artist working in London. I create acrylic paintings of the natural world using a vibrant colour palette. My main focus is on animal subjects but I also enjoy painting landscapes and surrealist art.
How did you develop your practice?
I have always loved painting. When I was a young child, I would spend hours drawing and I created my first acrylic on canvas at the age of 7. I have always been fascinated with nature, which led me to study a degree in biology. These interests have now been united in my colourful animal paintings.
What inspires you and why do you love your practice?
Art is my escape- when I paint I am totally transfixed, from the moment I sit down in front of the canvas until I finish my last brushstroke, I find the process very meditative and refreshing.
I am drawn to colours and patterns in nature and the challenge of representing familiar subjects in an unusual way. I am also constantly inspired by other artists and their work- it definitely encourages me to be more creative and try new things!
What does it mean to you to be a creative feminist?
For me, being a creative feminist is about encouraging equality and representation within the art world. So many classical artworks epitomise the male world view, particularly in their depiction of the female form. With increasing female artist representation we are creating a more holistic artistic landscape, and it is exciting to be part of that change.
I have been a huge fan of Annabelle’s work for a while now so it gives me great pleasure to welcome her onboard the community! Please show Annabelle some love by following her page on Instagram – @apainterart and by commenting your thoughts below! We love having you Annabelle!
