Day 34: Ana Karina Tejeda

I absolutely love how today’s creative (@bykarinat on Instagram) is inspired by art’s nature to transcend normal conventions of language and become its own spiritual language, because this is exactly how I came to be connected with Ana. We perhaps would have never crossed paths (me living in England and Ana living in Mexico) had I of not been mesmerised by her delicate watercolours on Instagram. So Ana’s work truly holds the power to inspire, transcend and connect.

Please may you introduce yourself and your practice.
My name is Ana Karina Tejeda (@bykarinat). I am Mexican and I am currently studying architecture, but I have always had a great love for watercolour.

How did you develop your practice?
The truth is that since I was little I’ve loved to paint and when I entered into architecture they taught me representation techniques that helped me a lot in the technical aspect of my drawings.

What inspires you and why do you love your practice?
I feel that in art, you can be inspired literally by anything, a little bit of imagination and everything is possible. I love to paint because art does not need a language because it is a spiritual language, where everyone can interpret in different ways and feel different things. ♥

What does it mean to you to be a creative feminist?
This term fascinates me, I think I have never heard it before. I am Mexican and being a feminist here is a constant struggle and I am happy to tell you that we are moving forward. I hope that my art inspires you to never stop fighting for what you love.
For me, feminism and art are great aspirations, they can both move masses.

Ana’s innate passion and love for both the process and powers of art making is such an inspiration to me and truly encompasses what it means to be a creative feminist. Please show Ana some love by following her page on Instagram – @bykarinat and by commenting your thoughts below! Thank you for sharing your story with us Ana.
