Day 59: Georgina Ball

I am honestly BURSTING with excitement to share today’s wonderfully fresh and fun creative feminist (@gb.arts on Instagram) with you all. I am in complete awe of Georgina’s artwork; the way that she takes simple domestic objects and transforms them into these mesmeric, distorted and playful sculptures is pure magic.

Please may you introduce yourself and your practice.
My name is Georgina Ball (@gb.arts), I am a Brighton based artist with practice in Fine Art Sculpture. My work has concentrated on making playful works.

How did you develop your practice?
My practice has developed over many years through art school and just finishing a Fine Art Sculpture degree this week! I find my practice is led by the materials. Each piece holds a concept which surrounds the materials and techniques used to create the works. I often repurpose the initial function of the object to open vast opportunities in up-cycling materials, as well as creating experimentation.

What inspires you and why do you love your practice?
take inspiration from the domestics objects around me, looking to see how I can manipulate and change the use of the object to create something new and exciting.

What does it mean to you to be a creative feminist?
Being a creative feminist means being part of a community that supports each other. I have a strong network of women surrounding me that I take inspiration from and I hope to grow with more female artists as women support women.

Firstly, I’d like to ask you all to put your hands together to congratulate Georgina on completing her degree; what an incredible achievement this is and one worth seriously celebrating! I’d also like to pause to drink in the delicious marriage of playfulness and refinement in Georgina’s work, there’s something so fresh and unique in the sculptures which really really excites. What’s more, I love how Georgina up-cycles objects to create new possibilities. Please show Georgina some love by following her page @gb.arts and by commenting your thoughts below! As you can tell, I’m in complete bewilderment of this funky and incredibly talented creative fem.

If you would like to work with Georgina on a project you can contact her by direct message on Instagram.
